Mock Congress Preparation
Students in each workshop group got a different bill that is currently in Congress to study and discuss. Students got information to read, and then discussed the issue with student judges presiding over the discussion. Lobbyists were chosen from each workshop to represent the bill for them. They then take it to Committee. Students were set up in different committee groups, with students chosen as Committee Chair to instruct the group, and then heard from lobbyists on both sides (so now they've learned a lot about two different bills). Committees who were able to hear both sides, debate and vote for it to move forward took the bill to the House floor. If the committee didn't finish or voted the bill down, the bill was dead in committee. These pictures are from the workshop discussions and from Committee.
